Snowfling mittens

There may not be much snow to fling around this time of year, but I still do LOVE these Snowfling mittens I made for my friend Deb. She celebrates a birthday this week (I squashed the surprise element two weeks ago when I made her try them on to see if they would fit). A couple of years ago, Deb gifted me with a pair of Druid mittens that are so exquisite that I can barely bring myself to wear them. I've since been wanting to attempt a fancy pair of mittens and when I saw this kit, I knew they were the ones. Big bold snowflakes, cashmere lining, picot edge - ooh. la. la!

I not only use Reader to catalogue my blog reading but also for etsy and twitter updates. Big big sigh. So now that I've expressed my (overwrought) grief, any feed reader suggestions, please and thanks?

Tea towel love

Some crisp new tea towels ready for service! I made these using a tea towel kit from Greenwood Quiltery. I love quick and satisfying sewing projects :)

Side note: I rejoined Pinterest recently. I felt a little weird about the terms of service last year and cancelled my account but have come back around. It's been a little weird reconnecting... like meeting up with an old friend who likes to talk a lot about getting fit, and how she gets that cool braid in her hair  and how she does her eye makeup. She also has a weird tendency to throw in some inspirational random quotes into the conversation for good measure.

Two things that are new to me:
1. Dogs dressed as humans. (I like this very very much although I wish I didn't)
and 2. Recipes for things that involve 3 ingredients. (Is this really possible? I don't see how you can make cookies with 3 ingredients... And yet there is a picture of the finished product and they look like reasonable cookies.). In any case, if you're on pinterest, let's be friends! I'm, not surprisingly, msteekay.

A honey of a cowl

My sweet sweet friend KW made me this GORGEOUS earth-toned honey cowl. Soft, warm and squishy it is a total luxury. I love it so! Thanks Kerry :)

So sticking to my non-resolution of clearing the decks, I finished up these socks that I cast on last summer when I went to NYC. We arrived in the middle of a serious heatwave -- precisely the kind of weather that is perfect for knitting wool socks, right?

:: These felted critters with their scarves, sweaters and knitted satchels are the very definition of cute. And also, speaking of cute - this pattern for the Owl and the Pussycat is very very sweet.

:: Printable sewing cards for kids - Packaged with some embroidery floss, this would make a fun little gift. (I especially like Betty Bouffant).

Wiksten tank

 Hey, look what I made! The Wiksten tank.

The details:
I took a really good course at Greenwood Quiltery which was a great intro to garment sewing. The class moved quickly as we worked to get most of the tank done within the hours allotted (I had to finish the binding around one arm on my own at home). 

I picked up some really good tips, including: What's the secret to sewing around curves? Answer: Go slow.
